Ballet des Tapis

Project

What is fashion? The play of the dress with the body, the metamorphosis that results from the interplay of the two?

The work "Ballet des Tapis" is the result of a commission for the design and architecture magazine Hochparterre.

Three different carpets were discussed in an article by editor Lilia Glanzmann, and my pictures were supposed to show them in their own way.

After a few sketches of ideas, I decided to take the carpet from the floor to the person and, starting from the object, translate it into moving forms.
I was fascinated by how the carpets revealed their different textile styles in their interaction and movement with the human bodies, how they told of themselves and became a dress. Suddenly I encountered completely new and surprising creatures in the studio, depending on their shape and proportions.

Four men in black trousers dance under a large knitted carpet in orange.
A little boy in black trousers is holding a large geometric rug.
Four men in black trousers under a large carpet all jump into the air at the same time.
Three men in black trousers crawl under a large carpet with a panther design.
Three men in black trousers hold up a carpet with a print of the universe.
Three men wearing black trousers and black jumpers show only their hands and feet behind a long carpet runner with a graphic pattern.
A man wearing black trousers is carrying a blue and white carpet and looks like a ostrich.
A man in black trousers carries a colourful red and purple cone-shaped carpet.
